  Legislative and Public Policy Committee  The National Council of Developmental Disabilities Councils has a Legislative Action Center

Legislative and Public Policy Committee

2008 Legislative and Public Policy Committee Meetings will be weekly every Monday in the Capitol cafeteria, 
starting on January 28, 2008 and ending on May 5, 2008

During the months the legislature is not in session, the Legislative and Public Policy Committee will meet at the State Capitol monthly on the first Monday of each month, from June to December 2008.

All meetings take place in the basement of  the State Capitol, joining DEAL meetings at 10 AM, followed by the Legislative and Public Policy Committee meeting at 11 AM


TEN COMMANDMENTS OF ADVOCACY

I. Thou shall register and vote; you must be in the game to play!

II. Thou shall know the players: your own legislators, committee chairs, legislative leadership, staff and the Executive branch.

III. Thou shall know your issue well and relate that issue to your legislators in light of other emerging and pressing concerns.

IV. Thou shall make available accurate, specific information to your legislators and other constituents in a timely fashion.

V. Thou shall be creative in building coalitions and partnerships around shared interests.

VI. Thou shall educate and involve others in your cause.

VII. Thou shall be willing to compromise.

VIII. Thou shall stay in touch with your legislators all the time – not just during the session.

IX. Thou shall be a reliable and trusted source of information.

X. Thou shall never give up…there’s always the next session!
